End of Summer-->Fall Stuff!

Like everything else this year, summer was over in a blink.  Steve and I had a wonderful summer visiting family, playing kickball, lots of swimming, cooking out, and hanging out with great friends.  Transitioning well into Fall, the weather right now is PERFECT!  Football season is underway and the house is obviously divided.  With the surgery and all, I was unable to find a teaching job right away, so instead I am a nanny for 2 boys and a little girl everyday after school.  I'm having a blast with them while still keeping the "teacher" in me.  God will provide the perfect job for me when the time is right.  I try not to get discouraged, I just get anxious because I worked so hard in college, all I want to do is be a teacher.  Anwyho, here are some recent pics!

Surgery and Such

So, a lot of things have been happening lately with my health.  Most of you know that I do have Crohn's disease.  I was diagnosed my Senior year, back in 2004.  For those who don't exactly what it is, here's a brief description:

"Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammation in the bowel resulting from immune system malfunction. Research indicates that in people with Crohn’s disease, the immune system, which is responsible for protecting the body from invading substances, actually mistakes some bacteria and other organisms normally found in the intestines for foreign invaders. The body then sends white blood cells into the lining of the intestines to fight these so-called invaders. This overproduction of white blood cells results in the inflammation of the intestines. Prolonged inflammation can lead to ulcerations and injury to portions of the bowel."

I haven't had many flares in the 6 years. Unfortunately, when I moved to Dallas, I had a couple flare-ups which ended up in two different hospital stays.  Back in July, I was visiting my parents in Huntsville, when I had a major flare-up.  I went straight to the ER from stepping off the plane in Dallas.  We decided, based on prayers, research, the surgeon/GI doctors, that I was going to go through with the resection surgery.  So, September 2nd, I had my surgery, and ended up having a double resection.  They removed part of my colon and small intestine.  I am in week 5 of my 6 week recovery and doing great!  My mom got to be there and help with everything as well.  Thank you for all your support and prayers!  Although Crohn's is a lifelong disease, with possible reoccurence, I am disease-free as of right now.  I have a great God who took care of me throughout all the pain, frustration, anxiety, and fear.  He also blessed me with a husband who was there for me every step of the way.  I am so blessed!

Happy Anniversary to Us!

These 2 years have flown by! We have learned so much about each other and cannot wait to see what life has in store for us.  We are so blessed to have such wonderful family and friends.  We haven't officially celebrated our anniversary yet, because of a set-back with my health.  I was actually in the hospital on the actual day. :(  More on that later...
Here are some pics from our day (Sept. 6th, 2008)!

First Day of School

I can't believe Jordan is already in 3rd grade! She's growing up so fast and is such a pretty, little girl.  She is as sweet as can be and is a great helper when she comes to stay with us.  She is smart as a whip and we've realized that she has a little bit of her Uncle Mike's spunk and quick-wittedness.  It's hard to think I met her over 3 years ago!  We're buds and I couldn't ask for a better step-daughter! :)  Btw, she's asking when she's getting a brother or sister (she wants a sister) and that won't be for a few more years.  She'll be a great big sister someday.  We're looking forward to it.

Jovie Update!

Here are some pictures from Easter.  I'm stealing these from my sister-in-law.  I'm sad I'm not there to see her more.  She's growing like a weed! Can't wait to see her in May! I'm a proud Auntie!

NYE in the Big "D"

It's 2010! I can't believe it!  Happy New Year to everyone, I hope you made some much-needed resolutions and will stick to them!  We had the joy of my sister-in-law Jill, and her husband Patrick to stay with us New Year's weekend.  We had a great time hanging out.  We gathered with thousands of people in the middle of downtown Dallas for the count down.  It was sooo cold, but had a great time.  We got a chance to go to the Cotton Bowl at the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium. It was nuts!  I will be a happier person if I never have to hear the Ole Miss chant ever again in my life!  It was rough. :)  New Year's day we walked over to the parade, and I happened to get interviewed for Channel 5!  Ha!  We got to celebrate Jill's belated 23rd birthday as well.  Hope everyone had a blessed New Year!
